Costco, Washington, DC always has this wine, and it's always $7.99.

Black licorice, subtle vanilla, and muddled black cherry meet the nose. Very pleasing, integrated aromas for such an inexpensive wine.

Cherry, sap, pine, and black licorice flavors punch through a medium bodied mouth feel. The sap and pine characteristics indicate the wine was probably made with a fair amount of Lodi, CA fruit. Lodi fruit, in my humble opinion and experience, tends to impart a sappy, piney quality to wine. I'm not crazy about that quality, but here it is rather tame.

Overall, this wine is a mindless every day drinker. Nothing bad. Nothing great. At the price, though, I keep buying it. 13.5% ABV

Toasted almonds, black cherry, sweet oak aromas waft from the glass. With deep concentration, black cherry, blackberry, charred oak caress the palate. Fine tannins provide interesting structure. A long cherry-vanilla finish leaves me pouring more. I'll purchase again, for sure. Q-P-R!

Muddled blackberries, dark chocolate, and sweet toasted oak aromas rise from the glass. Aromatics concentrate into promising flavors on the palate. Astringency, however, ruins a promising show. Not a terrible wine, but not a very fun wine. 2016 is very young for Bordeaux. Perhaps it needs time. 14% ABV.

Searching for a pulse, here. With a swirl of the glass, candied, charred red berries eek to the fore. When put to the mouth...the wine tastes like, well, wine. Decently made wine, but just wine. Which, isn't terrible thing; just not interesting. Utimately, it is simple blackish, reddish fruits with a concentration and mouth feel far better than any bottom shelf Gallo. That's it. 13% ABV

2017 Kirkland Chardonnay - Sonoma County by Jason Rogers

Looking for a workhorse, penny-pinching chardonnay? Here it is. Pear, citrus, and an over-generous whiff of toasted oak attack the nose. The mouth delivers citrus, stone fruits, toasted oak chips and cheap butter. A fair line of acidity and slightly chubby mouthfeel frame everything. While not an incredibly memorable wine, this bank account pleaser holds the promise of joyful, mindless, daily quaffing. 13.5% ABV
