I was born in San Francisco, CA. Currently live in North Bethesda, MD.
From CA to MD, I've had many adventures in life.
Working in Hollywood was a peculiar and insightful quest. I shot cinematography, produced, acted, waited tables, and bartended.
I then turned grapes into wine as a winemaker in California and Australia. I started an Australian wine business with a good mate of mine.
My, I love wine...and a good vodka martini as you see from my art (sorry gin).
I earned a B.A. in Cinema Studies from San Francisco State University, and a B.S. in Biology from the University of California, Irvine.
I enjoy traveling the world with my wife. Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Southeast Asia, France, Switzerland, and Germany. Just a few of the places we've been. We're off to Spain, Portugal, and Morocco next.
MY ART
Painting started as a fluke. Years ago, I gifted my wife a paint set to embolden her creativity, but she never used it. So I started painting with it.
I never stopped.
Aside from film school, I'm a self-taught artist. I visit art museums and learn from books and Internet tutorials.
My influences are post-impressionists (Van Gogh, Cezanne), fauvists and early 20th century modern artists (Braque, Matisse, Hopper). Pop artists (Hockney, Warhol, Lichtenstein). Street artists (Banksy). And Robert Burridge, the artist who introduced me to collage and encouraged a closer look at the color wheel.
If you look at my work, you can I see I love bold color, line, and composition. My paintings are bright, urban, cosmopolitan. Hopperesque emptiness appeals to me.
My art can be anything. Perhaps martinis and dead Presidents. Perhaps reflections of social, political, or historical currents.
Ultimately, my art looks inward and expresses me at a fundamental level. Look close. It may be the feeling of waking in the middle of the night with nothing separating quiet darkness from anxious thought.
